My 15 yo is besotted. He loves the game. Lots of his friends do too. You only need to search on YouTube, where (I presume) kids watch videos of other kids playing the game, to see that it is very popular.
The quality of the guitar shaped controlled seems distinctly suspect. My lad's showed intermittent faults almost from day one. Those have got worse. Now he rates the game as unplayable because the controller is likely to miss a vital note even though he hit it. In a competitive game that costs points.
We started to look at sending it back. The first port of call is the manufacturers web site. This tells us that the controller is only guaranteed for 90 days. That is an interesting start point. In fact I didn't, and don't, think they can do that. AIUI the sale of goods act (we are in the UK - YMMV) says you get one year, and any warranty is in addition to your sale of goods act rights.
This is a GBP 60 item. It does not seem right to me that they can wash their hands of it after three months. I expect more of it than that.
Anyone else got similar experiences?

Re: Is the game "Guitar Hero" really a lousy buy?
Day 1 - The ball is rolling.
Today we emailed Amazon. That's where the game came from so it's Amazon we have a contract with.

Day 2 - So far Amazon are looking good.
We had a reply email asking for address confirmation "so we can ship a replacement at no additional charge". Sounds good so far.

Day 3 - Amazon are looking like heros. Email today "I have placed a new order # xxx-xxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxx for "Guitar Hero 3: Legends Of Rock (with Wireless Guitar Controller) (Xbox 360)", and it will be dispatched as soon as possible to the same address."
So far it's Kudos to Amazon for great Customer Support.

Still Day 3 - Amazon are looking brilliant. A second email today "Your Amazon.co.uk order has dispatched... ...expected arrival date tomorrow." They expect us to send the old one back to them within 30 days (entirely reasonable) and they will refund the return postage.
This is great customer service.

Day 4 - Amazon rate an A1 plus maximum Kudos for customer service.
The replacement game was delivered early this afternoon and the lad is delighted. I can feel (sic!) the noise (oops - music) washing over me right now.

Some days later - OK I cannot remember precisely - we sent the old one back and Amazon emailed to confirm that they had received it. I thought that was a nice touch.
Thanks Amazon - Great customer service.
